Atelier Riri Creates Home out of Shipping Containers

Located in a suburb of Jakarta, Indonesia is a 155 sq. m. home made out of old shipping containers stacked together. The home is for a family of 4 including two young children, and Atelier Riri was challenged to not only use old shipping containers but to also create a habitable shared space. Overlapped, the containers created several hobby rooms, while a wooden deck on the roof created more usable space. In the spirit of repurposed goods, the architects also focused on conservation of material, which resulted in exposed brick walls and unfinished concrete floors, which only added to the industrial aesthetic but also allowed for less waste.
