Japan’s Kouichi Kimura Architects, after unveiling COMPLEX, is back with its latest project. Located in the Shiga prefecture, the firm’s 304 square-meter Courtyard House sits in a residential area amongst fields and farms and is visually connected to a distant hill — along with a Torii gate and adjacent shrine — so as to seamlessly blend in with the landscape and scenery. Highlighted by a U-shape and a secure and private courtyard, the home sees its white-walled and concrete interior configured by a single open room that combines living, kitchen, dining, and study spaces as bathrooms, closets and bedrooms line the perimeter of the space.
