Elon Musk Unveils the PowerWall, A Battery System to Power Your Home

In the revolutionary company’s latest venture, Elon Musk has introduced the Powerwall at Tesla’s dedicated press event. Essentially a stackable battery system to charge your home, the Powerwall’s home edition measures in at 10 kilowatts per hour, and aims to allow customers to live off the grid in conjunction with solar power technology, as well as functioning as a backup power source. By charging during the day via solar panels or via the grid when utility rates are at their lowest, the Powerwall thus allows users to lower both their power consumption and utility fees by using the unit’s stored energy at peak times during the night. Set to ship this summer, the Powerwall begins at $3,500, with larger, scalable units designed for businesses and utilities also made available.
