An 18th century may seem like an odd choice of inspiration for footwear design, but Nike Basketball has channeled exactly that with the introduction of the “Beethoven” edition of the Nike Kobe 9 Elite Low. An homage of sorts to the power of the German composer and pianist’s Symphony No. 9 in D minor, Op. 125–simply known to many as the “Ninth Symphony” or “The Choral”–the release aligns Kobe Bryant‘s ninth Nike signature with Beethoven’s final completed symphony, coupling Wolf Grey with both black and white while incorporating technologies like a Flyknit upper, Dynamic Flywire support, a carbon fiber heel counter, and Lunarlon cushioning.
The second in-line edition of the Kobe 9 Elite Low, the “Beethoven” is set to hit Nike Basketball retailers and Nike.com on August 16 for $200 USD.
